History of Phi Delta Epsilon

National History
Founded on March 17, 1904, at Cornell University Medical College, Phi Delta Epsilon is an international professional medical fraternity with a legacy rooted in brotherhood, scholarship, and service. Established by eight Jewish medical students seeking mutual support during a time of discrimination, the fraternity was built on values that continue to guide future physicians today.

Over time, Phi Delta Epsilon expanded beyond medical schools, launching its first pre-medical chapter in 1994. Today, the fraternity’s extensive network includes premedical and medical students, practicing physicians, and distinguished emeritus members, with active chapters at undergraduate institutions and accredited medical and osteopathic medical schools across the globe.
For more than a century, Phi Delta Epsilon has supported medical students through mentorship, service initiatives, and lifelong professional connections. Guided by its motto, “Facta Non Verba” — Deeds, Not Words, Phi Delta Epsilon continues to advance excellence in medicine and service to humanity.

On Sunday, December 9th, 2018, after a semester of hard work and development, South Carolina Beta received its charter. Since then, we have worked hard to develop our chapter’s membership, fraterhood, and philanthropy.
